Today is the new moon day of the Falgun month means Falgun Amavasya, and one phase of this month, which is the Krishna Paksha, is ending. From tomorrow, which is Monday, the Shukla Paksha of Falgun will begin. According to scriptures, the new moon day is considered a festival. It’s a tradition to perform auspicious deeds for our ancestors along with worship on this date.

According to the astrologer Pandit Manish Sharma from Ujjain, it’s important to perform the abhishek (ritual bath) of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi in the morning of Falgun month. Start the abhishek by worshipping Lord Ganesha. Then, fill a conch shell with saffron-mixed milk and offer it to Vishnu and Lakshmi. After bathing with milk, bathe with clean water. Offer new clothes to the deities, adorn them with garlands and flowers, apply sandalwood paste, and offer sweets with basil leaves. Light incense and lamps and perform aarti while chanting the mantra “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya” during the worship of Lord Vishnu.

Here’s how to perform the abhishek of Lord Shiva:

For those who worship Lord Shiva, after worshipping Lord Ganesha, perform the abhishek of the Shiva Linga. Pour water, panchamrit, and then water again over the Shiva Linga. Apply sandalwood paste and decorate the Shiva Linga with bilva leaves, datura, flowers like marigold, rose, etc. Offer vermilion, colored powder, sacred thread, etc., to Lord Shiva. Offer sweets and perform aarti by lighting incense and lamps.

Perform midday rituals for ancestors:

Around noon, which is around 12 o’clock, perform rituals for ancestors. It’s believed that performing rituals for ancestors on the new moon day brings peace and happiness to the family. Light cow dung cakes and offer jaggery and clarified butter (ghee) on the embers while meditating on the ancestors. Then, take water in your palm and offer it to the ancestors.

Light lamps near the basil plant in the evening:

After sunset on the new moon day, light lamps near the basil plant. You can also light lamps at the main entrance of the house along with the basil plant.

Know who can perform auspicious deeds on Amavasya:

On this day, it’s good to donate money, grains, footwear, and clothes to the needy. You can also feed people if you wish.

Light lamps in front of Lord Hanuman and recite Hanuman Chalisa and Sundarkand. You can also chant the mantra “Shri Ramadutaaya Namah” or recite “Ram Ram” or “Sita Ram.” You can also donate items like ghee, oil, kumkum, colored powder, garlands, prasad, and clothes to a temple.

You can also clean temples or public places like gardens. Plant a tree in a public place and pledge to take care of it.

Donate to a cow shelter for the care of cows. Feed them green grass.
